Good Morning All,

Full “steam “ ahead towards summer !

The house flies and mosquitos have arrived too…. Sitting outside in the late evening, I see that our fireflies are still flashing around the farmyard and in greater numbers this year than I have seen in years past….I have an expert from the state coming out this week to set up recording devices to monitor the sounds of our bat population, through these recordings set up over 3-4 nights, they will identify by sound the species of bats we have here in the woods. I am hoping that these recordings will help to identify our bat species, and if our population supports any threatened or endangered species, these recording will be a tool to help preserve our farm and forest land for future generations… sounds sort of mundane, but this is terribly exciting for our farm and woodland future.

Asparagus and rhubarb is at the end, unless we get a bit more rain today ( please Mother Nature ), the rhubarb will get soft and woody. I do hope to have a later harvest for our winter freezers. Strawberries are at peak right now and this year have more flavor than ever….. peas should be more readily available this week, the summer squashes and possibly even cucumbers next week! Stay tuned…..

So much more is on the way.

Our farmers markets are flourishing, take the time to stop by , meet the farmers and crafters that help to make our state thriving and vibrant communities, I hope to see you there!!!

Delivery will be Wednesday afternoon for the Portland area, and Friday afternoon for our Lewiston/Auburn folks….

We are grateful for your support and commitment to feeding your families our excellent local foods, please let me know how I might help fill your pantries!

Good morning All !

After the refreshing and much need rain yesterday, today brilliant sunshine…. Maybe the pollen will be washed away too!

Our barn kitten babies are now looking for loving homes, indoors or out, they make great pets, and are excellent mousers too! The barn cats here at the farm are smaller than most cats, but wow can they catch mice ! I will gladly provide more photos if you are thinking about adding a bundle of energy to your household.

Greens , radishes and salad turnips and garlic scapes are available now, and the strawberries……. So super sweet !

Seedlings are in good supply and there is PLENTY of planting time to get them into the ground … let us know if you are searching for replacement tomatoes peppers or cukes, I hear that the squirrels and chipmunks have been a bit pesky this spring and have hit the gardens hard…..

We have completed the gating around the farmhouse and greenhouses so our sheep, horses and beef critters now graze around the buildings to help with grass and weed control… BUT … no bare feet around the farm please, you never know what you might step in !

As always, our grateful support for your continuing support of our local awesome small farms and crafters, all of you have helped to make our great commitment to local foods one of the great reasons to continue. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at markets!

Good Morning All!

Babies abound ! Baby chicks, soon to hatch ducklings, quail ,goslings, rabbits and KITTENS! Anyone looking for a cute little kitten? These little ones are from our barn cats . Our cats are excellent mousers, very adept at feeding themselves and quite small when full grown. While their parents are not friendly to pat, I collect their babies when just weaned and raise them in the house for a week or so to get them used to litter boxes and being held. I have 6 available right now, 2 tigers, 2 black with white splashes and 2 marmalade … let me know if you might be interested! We are coming to the end of fiddleheads and ramps, our season is rapidly marching on! I will have fresh shiitake mushrooms this week, just had a farmer call and ask if I would take his crop , so, let me know if you are interested.. $14.00 pound ! Asparagus has been so tender and tasty, and while I do not have any fresh strawberries this week, I still have frozen that would be delicious with rhubarb in pies….. Stay strong and healthy my friends and please let me know how I can continue to fill your refrigerators and freezers… whole chicken will be available this week, buy multiples for a better price!

Again as always I appreciate your commitment to local foods and our excellent small Maine farms, and out I go to plant for an hour or so this morning….. Grateful for you all...
