Fireworks...love 'em, hate 'em

Good morning all,

Hope that our long weekend has been well spent with friends and family, our weather (although rain would be welcome right now) has been splendid for gatherings and water fun….and fireworks, where would we be without the traditional fabulous celebratory nighttime light show….fireflies, meteor showers and the Northern Lights are MY choice….

Which brings me to my message for the week…. I will not be able to attend the Wednesday market or put together our usual grocery orders, I travel to Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon to stay in the hospital in rotation with my family to be with my nephew who was seriously injured in a pyrotechnic set up Sunday afternoon. Walt has been a licensed pyrotechnician for more than 5 years and is in charge of crews throughout central Massachusetts that set up the gigantic fireworks displays for the public. He is meticulous, thorough and a stickler for every detail, however, Sunday afternoon he was setting up the charges when one went off and he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time… Walt will be fine, but will be in the hospital for 7 to 10 days and rehab for much longer. He is a big strong healthy guy that takes his job seriously and he will recover, but gosh….. be still my heart…. So I hope to be back by Friday, and resume my market and farm chores, I am lucky to have excellent farm helpers that will take up the day to day routine, but I cannot ask them to do even more, so the Red Shed will be open for any of you that would like to take a trip up (Thursday and Friday 2-5 and Saturday 10-2) for fresh local foods; the strawberries are just about done, but cukes, zukes, broccoli Summer squash, and fabulous greens are arriving or being picked daily! I thank you all for your local foods and excellent small farm support, and I will look forward to seeing you all soon!

Kath
