August Blues...

Hi All…

Yup, the blues are gone, we have picked all the bushes here at the farm, most of the other farmers that I can get them from have been picked out too….. now if we had received our fair share of rain, we’d still probably be able to extend the season another week, but no such luck…….I am able to get blackberries but that season is really really limited…

The baby turkeys arrived a week ago (yay)! They will be kept under heat lamps

(Hard to believe they need it with these high temps) but they do need extra warmth until their teeny little feathers come in….these little buggers grow so very quickly and from now until Thanksgiving, they will grow in size from less than 2 ounces to as much as 25 pounds ! And in another 3 weeks they will be in large pens on the front lawn of the farmhouse…. Lots of folks will take the drive down the road to watch these goofy big birds…. If I can just keep the raccoons and foxes from them…

Update on my nephew Walt, he has had all of his stitches removed and is able to change the dressing on his grafts and burn wounds by himself. The fingers on his right hand are able to wiggle and move, so it seems that his movement will return . A true miracle , he is so very fortunate, and we are all very relieved. I do honesty thank each and everyone of you that asked about his progress and wished him a speedy return! He is a stubborn and motivated Irish redhead and not much has ever gotten in his way….

And so, off I go for this week. I do as always, thank you all for your continuing support of local foods and our excellent small Maine farms, the garden bounty is in full swing!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Kath
